Measuring Total Insulin level in EDTA-plasma of High Fat Diet (HFD) hamster after applying drug for Hyperlipemia (Fenofibrate, αPPAR agonist)

We have received the following interesting test result from one of our valuable customer, Dr. Francois Briand, PhD / Director, Research and Business Development, Member of the Board of Directors Physiogenex S.A.S (French, CRO) who is using our ELISA kit #27705 Mouse/Rat Total Insulin (high sensitivity) Assay Kit – IBL  for measuuring total insulin in hamster plasma samples.

Data 1
The following data was obtained under the following experiment conditions.
10 Chow (healthy) control hamsters were fed ordinary food and fasted for 6 hours. Then, blood was collected from forelimb vein of the hamsters prior 30 minutes and after 15 minutes of glucose loading. The plasma was diluted 50 fold and measured.

Both total insulin before and after glucose loading in the hamster plasma were measured by the assay kit and it was confirmed that total insulin after glucose loading were significantly increased in each sample.

Data 2
The following data was obtained under the following experiment conditions.
20 HFD hamsters were prepared and divided into 2 groups and blood was collected in fasting for 6 hours.
Total insulin in plasma of vehicle group (N=10) and fenofibrate group (N=10) were measured.
HFD hamsters in fenofibrate group were fed 200mg/kg αPPAR agonist once a day for 2 weeks and the whole blood was collected under isoflurane anesthesia.

Total insulin level in finorfebrate group were significantly decreased compare to vehicle group and it has been observed that insulin sensitivity was improved.

As it has been known that isoflurane anesthesia induces to decrease insulin level, total insulin was also able to measure in the hamster plasma that was applied isoflurane anesthesia.
